Traditional Flavors from the Fields of NA Nuan CHUN to a National Stage
It was our very first time speaking about Nanuanchun on a national platform — and the first time I could share the story of Grandpa Nuan and Grandma Chan, who passed down their wisdom of Sato to us. We are grateful to Sake Week Thailand for inviting us to present alongside Chef Black and for giving Nuan Jan Sato the opportunity to compete for the very first time.

When I decided to return home to grow rice, it may have seemed unusual, even against the current compared to friends of my generation. Yet I always believed in the value of what we had, and in the possibility of growth. As long as I stayed, invested my energy, and refused to abandon my roots, I could carry forward the family’s knowledge that lives within me. Whatever form the product may take, it will always embody the taste of our contemporary countryside. These traditions will never fade, as long as we remain here to keep them alive.
Crafting Sato with Heart
During the event interview, I was asked how we could make Sato appealing, and what strategies Nanuanchun had to attract both local and international customers. My answer, as a farmer’s son, was simple: the key is to make Sato delicious and enjoyable. Drinking is about joy, and when someone finds happiness in drinking Sato, they naturally want to share that joy with the people they love. That is our true intention — and our main strategy.

Best Traditional Sato award
At Sake Week Thailand 2025, Nuan Jan Sato entered its very first competition. Every participant submitted their Sato for a blind tasting — with brand and packaging concealed, judged solely on flavor. The jury consisted of Sake Sommeliers from both Thailand and Japan. Out of more than 10 competing brands, we received the highest score, tied with one other competitor.
This recognition brought us joy and pride. Until now, we had never entered competitions; we only judged flavor based on our own family’s taste before sharing Sato with customers. This award affirms that the palate of a humble local family like ours can stand side by side with others. It gave new confidence to our entire family — uncles, aunts, and elders who have always helped taste along the way. That, above all, is what makes me most proud.

A Family’s Pride
We are deeply grateful for this award — it is a true pride of the Nanuanchun family. We will continue to refine our craft and dedicate ourselves fully to brewing Sato. I dedicate this honor to Grandpa Nuan and Grandma Jan, who passed on their knowledge; to my family, who cultivate the rice; and to my aunt, who steams the rice and helps with fermentation. This award belongs to all of them.
And most importantly, the greatest award of all is the support from our customers, who have always cared for and encouraged us. Thank you sincerely — your support means everything to us.
